Today I went to my first Yin Yoga Class at the Hot Yoga Auckland Studio and absolutely loved it! What a great way to spend a morning!
The yin yoga class was for 90 minutes at the Auckland hot yoga studio in their heated studio which was warm but not intensely hot. We were expertly guided through a range of yin postures by the yoga teacher Jennifer. Postures to gradually open different areas of the body and release any areas of tension.
Yin Yoga works the body differently from other types of yoga I have tried - with more emphasis on the deeper connective tissues; the ligaments and fascia that bind bone to bon at the joints. Connective tissues doesn't stretch like muscle, it takes more time to improve mobility and strength. For that reason the room is warmed and postures are held for longer periods of time.
I will write more about yin yoga another time as I learn more about it and continue my practice, so stay tuned.
Today however I want to talk about the amazing new hot yoga studio in Auckland. Hot Yoga Auckland opened its doors late last year and studio owner Fiona reports since its opening it has been going strong and its easy to see why. The studio has been built in a charming old heritage building with beautiful big windows, high ceilings, exposed brick and polished wood floors. The fit-out is stunning with great attention to detail; from the wallpaper in the reception to the tiles in the bathroom and rainfall showers - they have thought of everything even providing a beautiful range of natural bath care products for you to use while there.
The studio has a very relaxed feel and staff contribute to this - friendly, warm, happy to be there and wiling to help. The only inconvenience is the parking. The Auckland Hot Yoga Studio doesn't have parking and being located in Newmarket you'll need to search and pay for parking. So don't make the mistake I did and not leave enough time to find a park as you'll end up rushed and flustered before class. I recommend you give yourself 1/2 an hour before the yoga class to find a park in the surrounding streets or one of the many parking buildings nearby, make your way to the yoga studio and get set up for your yoga session. That way you can start feeling calm and relaxed and ultimately have a better class.
Despite my flustered state after a few minutes in the class I quickly relaxed and found myself enjoying every minute of the blissful yoga class. I left feeling relaxed, happy and ready to tackle my day - what an escape and fantastic way to start the day! The two classes I have been to at Hot Yoga Auckland have been great. I am so impressed I have signed up for more :-) I can't recommend this yoga studio highly enough - definitely check it out!
