Healthy eating for busy people

For those of us that are busy and constantly on the go, eating healthily often gets pushed to the side. It is way more convenient to grab something quick and easy than finding the time and energy to put into preparing nutritious meals or thinking about health benefits.

Fortunately, we are here to help, with just a little planning, healthy eating habits can be just as easy for busy people as they are for others who have time to spare. The following ideas will keep you eating healthily, no matter how packed your schedule may become.

Buy Healthy Snack Foods

Keeping your pantry stocked fill of healthy snack options such as kale chips, healthy crackers, popcorn or nuts and seeds will prevent you reaching for the wrong type of snack when you are hungry and need something quick and easy to snack on.

Stock up on Fresh Fruit

Strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries are all packed full of antioxidants and are some of the healthiest foods available. Toss some on top of a bowl of Greek yogurt for a snack and you will receive a combination of excellent vitamins, antioxidants, and healthy protein.

Keep Lean Proteins in the Fridge

Keep your fridge stocked with lean proteins such as organic, free-range turkey, hard-boiled eggs, nut butters and cheeses that you can easily grab on your way out the door. Consider cubing cheese and keeping it in separate containers or plastic bags that are easy to take on the go. Nut butters can be separated into small Tupperware containers as well, and can be eaten later with a sliced apple or banana.

Invest in a Blender

If you don’t already have a blender, it’s time to go buy one. Making a smoothie in the morning before you head out the door is an excellent and quick way to get the nutrients you need to start your day and keep you going through the morning. Keep frozen bananas in the freezer for a base, as well as an arsenal of other varieties of frozen fruits that can be easily added. Protein powder can also be added to give you the energy you need.

Take One Night to Prep for the Week

Taking a few hours on a Sunday evening to prep food for the coming week will keep you eating healthy all week long. You can cut up different veggies and store them in water to keep them fresh. Consider individually packaged hummus to dip them into throughout the week. You may also hard boil your eggs, prepare different meals and freeze them, and organize different meals and healthy snacks that can be taken on the go all week long.

So even though you are busy with a bit of planning and preparation you can eat healthy nutritious food. When you’re prepared, stopping for fast food will become a thing of the past, and you will find you begin to crave healthy food and find exciting ideas that will keep you healthy in the midst of your busy lifestyle.
