Meditation is a means of transforming the mind. Through the conscious act of focusing the breath, meditation is an approach to life that will bring peace of mind through focused concentration. There are a variety of methods of meditation that include stillness through sitting and focus on breath, prayer, and focused movement in awareness. No matter what type of meditation is used, the results gathered are the same and lead to a quieted mind that is free from the incessant thoughts that interfere with our ability to touch upon who we truly are without external stimulation.
Why Should We Meditate?
Meditation brings a stillness to life that allows us to touch upon the deeper parts of our mind, body, and soul. A decrease in stress and increased relaxation are common within those that meditate regularly, although psychological benefits run far deeper than simply increased peace of mind. Meditation can also help to increase memory and allow for deeper retention of what we know. Those who are prone to depression and anxiety will also find that meditation helps to alleviate these symptoms in the mind, bringing us to peace and acceptance of our lives.
Physically, meditation has the power to decrease blood pressure and provide more oxygen to the lungs. When we focus on our breath, we increase air flow to the lungs and allow ourselves to be greater filled with the breath of life. Stress is also taken off the heart, and heart rates become lower helping decrease the risk of heart attack and stroke. Those that meditate also find themselves with a more youthful appearance, with focus and concentration on calming the mind directly affecting the outer physical form.
When we engage in a practice of regular meditation, our entire lives take on new meaning. With a greater sense of peace and calm we are able to embrace whatever comes our way in life. Once we begin a meditation practice, it can be taken further into our everyday lives. We become more mindful of the circumstance around us, and may find ourselves partaking in walking meditations, and slipping into unconscious focused account of our breath in everyday activities.
Meditation can be brought to all aspects of life, and the more we experience the amazing results meditation brings, the closer we get to improving the quality of our lives. Through a focus on our minds, and learning to silence our thoughts, we begin to find that we experience a deeper sense of peace and tranquility that begins to spread to the world around us. The physical and emotional benefits of meditation will change your life and are only beneficial when meditation becomes integrated as part of your daily routine. Experiencing meditation can be life changing and in the results are contained all things positive and full of joy.
