Using Aromatherapy to Enhance your Mood

Used for hundreds of years, essential oils are still one of nature's best-kept secrets. Essential oils are an intricate part of nature, and happen to be the plant’s own medicine against bacteria, microbes, and viruses that attack the cell. Within each drop of essential oil are hundreds of complex compounds that help fight disease.

Our bodies and plants have very similar building blocks, and when we use essential oils in our own bodies they work for us the same way they would work for a plant. When used by humans, essential oils have the power to kill bacteria, prevent virus reproduction, destroy parasites, oxygenate our cells, and boost our immune systems! Instead of just masking symptoms, essential oils actually work at fundamental levels on the cellular level and happen to be an excellent way to boost your mood.

Looking for a mental pick-me-up? Try any of the following essential oils to enhance your mood and feel the best you can. Use essential oils to enhance your mood by burning in an oil diffuser, dabbing a bit on your pulse points to wear throughout the day, or put a few drops on your palms, rub them together, and inhale for some quick mental clarity. Receiving a massage with any of the following oils is also an excellent way to enhance your mood.

  • Lavender

Lavender oil is excellent in alleviating symptoms of depression and anxiety. Scientific studies have shown that lavender actually slows down the central nervous system and helps promote relaxation.

  • Lemon

Lemon may be one of nature’s happiest scents. Lemon oil has been shown to increase norepinephrine, a chemical in the brain that is responsible for mood regulation. Regular use of this essential oil can provide wonders for an increased mood.

  • Ylang Ylang

This sweet flowery fragrance has an extreme calming effect and almost immediately brings about a sense of relaxation. This oil helps to balance both female and male hormones and is excellent if you are prone to anger and easily irritated.

  • Sandalwood

Sandalwood is an extremely popular scent that has been used for centuries as a calming aid. Often burned as incense during meditation, sandalwood provides a calming effect to the entire system.

  • Jasmine

This popular essential oil is deeply relaxing, lifts depression, and has been shown to increase confidence. This sweet exotic scent is sure to bring you back up and offer the happiness you deserve.
