If you’re thinking about starting Pilates, you might be asking yourself what you should wear. This excellent form of exercise allows you to wear just about anything you feel comfortable in that still allows you to have a full range of motion. The atmosphere in a Pilates studio is pretty casual, so until you figure out just what clothes benefit you the most while working out, you should be fine in anything comfortable.
Keeping in mind comfortable and casual, you’ll find a variety of tanks, tees, and pants that are designed with Pilates in mind. Something that isn’t too baggy is a good way to go, one so your instructor isn’t revealed too much, and two so your instructor can see your true form. Pants worn at a Pilates class tend to be a little tighter yet stretch to allow a full-range of motion. Think yoga pants, spandex leggings and capris, as well as breathable bamboo pants that area a little on the looser side.
Some people love “dressing” for workouts, and there is an awesome variety of Pilates clothing to choose from. Clothing designed specifically for working out has become huge in the past few years, and the styles to choose from range from casual conservative to eclectic funk. Pants, tees, and tanks are definitely not limited to a boring black anymore, and you’ll see a bunch of different patterns and colors that reflect your own personal style.
Dressing for Pilates can be fun, and also a great excuse to buy some new workout clothes that make you feel great. Keep in mind to keep jewellery limited and never wear perfume or scented lotion to class. The scent you love doesn’t belong in the studio where it may bother others. Leave your shoes at the door and enjoy all the exciting benefits Pilates has to offer!
